NEW COR Fitness Program and board

The Downunder fitness board is a patent pending product that is now available for purchase through the Westport store, along with the other products used in the program - bosu ball and body bar. The full Downunder Fitness video will be published in the spring - to be notified when it is available, email us.
We have had a great response from physical therapists, occupational therapists, chiropractors, and fitness professionals in general. We are delighted to share this product with you, and to design a package that works for your needs.

STAND-UP PADDLING
INDOORS AND OUT
Change up your old fitness routine and try a total body workout on a board - on land or on water! SUP fitness incorporates core training, cardio, and strength. We mix traditional moves with some new stuff for a high-intensity workout you'll love!
Beginner classes will get you in the groove, at your own speed - and don't worry we have all sorts trying these classes and will put you in a class that fits. Join one of our in-house classes, arrange a private in store for your or a group of friends, or hire one of our trainers to come to your location. We can accommodate a class of up to 8 with two instructors.
Making sure you 'get it', are comfortable, and safe, are our priorities. Oh, and having fun - but that's a given. Even as you swear and maybe break out in a sweat, you'll be laughing and having a good time.

This is a small intimate class with lots of that great kiwi personal attention.
No running and jumping around, get a great workout without stressing out your joints! This class incorporates all the muscle groups – just like paddle boarding. Custom designed by our own fitness, yoga and SUP professionals utilizing the bosu ball, body bar, paddle boards, mat and floor exercises.

Start on the mat, then the board on the mat, then the bosu, THEN the board on the bosu on the mat. Yeeha!
Private Classes - no extra cost
In the store we can accommodate 5 students. Schedule a time that works for you when you have a group of 3 or more (weekdays). Free trials not eligible.
Offsite
Instructors are available to bring the program to you - we can accommodate up to 9 in an offsite class, space willing. $150, 1 hour up to 5 people. More than five $25pp.
ON WATER - in season only
When the water is warm again (mid May) we take our workout on the water - minus the weighted body bar! This is a full body workout requiring balance, concentration, coordination. If you don't have it yet - you will when we're done with you. Experience paddle boarding is recommended prior to taking this on-water class.
Become an Instructor
PaddleFit Instructor Certification - with Brody Welte of Stand-up Paddle Fitness, June 2nd and 3rd - yes it's a long way off! and it's something you want to plan ahead for. Downunder Westport.
YOGA
Recipients of a Best Offshore Yoga Award, Downunder has been offering this program since 2007. Our professional yoga instructors are also fully trained kayak or SUP guides, first aid and CPR certified, in addition to their yoga specialty.
Yoga in the Store
New in 2012, Alison Heisler, a local from Westport recently returned to the area, is teaching at Downunder
8:45-9:45am Wednesdays. $18 a class or $60 for a 4 pack.
SUP Yoga $50 1 hour (preceded by stretches and basic SUP instruction).
Yes on a board! It's much easier than you think, a great workout, and surreal! Our 11'6" x 33" wide NSP boards are ideally suited to yoga. Much larger than a yoga mat! Poses are geared to ensure you stay on the board - with as much or little challenge as you want.
Think about it: Yoga is all about balance. In this class, our instructor takes you slowly through a variety of yoga moves chosen carefully to help you be successful – no-one likes a wet down-dog! What’s really cool is that it encourages you to slow down and really focus on your form, as well as settle into that yogi frame of mind, being in the elements, breathing the fresh air.
Island Yoga
$60 2.5 hours (40 mins of which is yoga on the island) Rowayton only

Start with a few stretches on the dock and let out a great big yawn, as you settle into yoga mode. One of our local yoga instructors will then lead you on a paddle to a local beach or island for about 40 minutes of yoga.
The class is customized to the level of the participants - experienced yogis are encouraged to focus on perfecting and holding their poses while beginners learn something new. Take a dip when you’re done to refresh and complete the experience. Imagine – Sun Salutations outside! The sound of the water, the birds, the smell of the ocean – it’s quite magical.

Yoga Parties
The yoga offering is remarkably popular for adult parties – groups of friends, families (yes, dads have been known to give it a go), bachelorettes, and/or bridal groups. We have fitness groups come with their trainers for a bit of cross-training. Paddle out to an island, enjoy a class, and then come back for lunch (or cocktails!). Price varies dependent on the numbers of participants.
SUP RACE TRAINING
Over the summer months we offer regular outings for members and guests of the Downunder club, as well as our own race events. Joined by our instructors/team riders, get free advice on your technique and how to get the most out of the board you’re paddling.
Downwinders - departing from Downunder Rowayton or Westport depending on the wind - a nice 7 mile paddle.
Events
Paddling environment:
The Saugatuck River is an ideal racing ground - flatwater predominantly, but leads out to the Sound, where you can encounter some more challenging conditions, and a maze of islands and tributaries to paddle.
Plan Your Own Race
Doesn’t have to be a big deal – challenge your family and friends, organizations, corporation – we’ll help you plan an event where you paddle against one another on a short course. Use just the SUPs or add in the kayaks for variety, turn it into relays, add some challenges to level the playing field - like yoga, boat/board swapping, rescues.
