How to Give it a Go!  All you need to know about our hours and rental rates 

KAYAKING AND STAND-UP PADDLE BOARDING SEASON:

Mid May through Columbus Day - weather dependent.  Air and water temps combined must be a total of 120 in order for us to be comfortable letting people go paddling.  So in May, just check with us first...  After Columbus day we require cold water paddling protection and sell all levels of layers in Westport.  Keep in mind that Rowayton closes Labor Day w/e.

Sea kayak rentals:  The sea kayaks may be rented October to November; and April through May, if you are wearing a wetsuit and cold-water gear.  Please note that unless you have taken an approved class that includes capsizes and rescues you may not rent these kayaks without a guide.   

SUP rentals and activities:  Our Westport location is open year round, so we are able to extend the SUP season with the use of cold water paddling gear.  You can rent and go on your own in October and May, or join us for our guided tours throughout the winter months.  Guides are still available for hire. 

Your comfort and safety is our number one concern, closely followed by ensuring you have a good time.  Cold-water paddling is dangerous without the right thermal protection – and we take it very seriously. 

Fitness Classes:  October through May we offer indoor SUP fitness classes.

 NEW SEASON PASS

Valid from date of purchase for one year

Free Downunder Phone Pack

$350 for an individual season pass to paddle in either Westport or Rowayton.  We want you to be able to get out there, quickly, affordably and as often as you can. 

The pass allows you to paddle for up to two hours a day (more... just pay the difference).  Weekdays it's unlimited, weekends before 11am and after 3pm. 

$350 pass is based on $35/outing - single kayak or SUP rental for two hours.  Take a double and just pay the difference (i.e. $15).

Family pass is $250/adult, $125 per child.  Family of 4 would be $750. 

Couple pass (living in same household) $550.

Kayaks and boards are not available for taking offsite - unless for an event that is staffed by Downunder.

BYO BOARD OR BOAT

Those with their own equipment may join us, and receive a 20% discount from the tour pricing noted on the programs page.   You may not launch from Downunder, rather from the public launch sites nearby. In Westport it is directly opposite.  Please wait at the site for the tour to collect you.  Reservations are of course required.  In Rowayton the site is downriver.

RATES FOR RENTALS, GUIDES, AND INSTRUCTION

Rentals, Guides, Instruction, Programs, Parties, Store Rentals – you name it, Downunder offers it.

Reservations are recommended, and a credit card is necessary as a security deposit.

To bring on the fun a bit quicker, please print and fill out the waiver in its entirety and bring it with you when you come!  See waiver pdf link above.  See our cancellation policies below.

Store Rentals: 

Downunder Westport’s surf shop is available for rent for paddling parties, or parties without the paddling!  Contact Kim for information on rates, catering, packages, all your event plans. 

Gift Cards (for any dollar amount) for services or rentals are available year round.  Gift cards can also be purchased for use in our Surf Shop link toward equipment, accessories, and clothing.

CANCELLATION POLICIES:

The following are our policies for cancellation.  Please note that if you cancel outside of these times or terms your credit card will be charged.  In some instances you will be given a rentals credit.

Weather Cancellations:  If the weather is inclement (high winds, rain, lightning) we will NOT charge you.  Check www.weather.com for zip code 06853 for Rowayton and 06880 for Westport.  You must call to determine whether there is a weather cancellation. 

If the weather is not optimal you may request a credit toward another date.  As the weather differs from location to location, Downunder reserves the right to make the decision regarding cancellation. 

Downunder has up to 1 hour prior to paddle time to make a decision on weather-related cancellations; we appreciate your cooperation with this policy. 

General rentals: 24 hours 

Guided tours: 48 hours

Instruction/Classes/Guides: 1 week.  Up to 48 hours prior you may request a credit towards another date.  After 48 hours no refunds.

Summer Camp/Parties/Special Events:  2 weeks.  Up to 1 week prior to camp, you are eligible for a credit toward another program or equivalent in kayak rentals.  Cancellations within 1 week do not receive a refund.  In the case of illness/injury, a credit will be provided toward another week or kayak rentals.
